Ultimate Guide to Cleaning Your Mattress Topper

Posted by Annabeth & Hayley on

If you're like most people, you may not know where to start when it comes time to clean your mattress topper. If that's true, then you've come to the right place.

We know life can get messy, especially for college students, but it doesn't have to affect your mattress topper's comfort, quality, and longevity.

Without regular cleaning, bacteria, allergens, and dust mites can build up within your bed. Our Copper topper features advanced hygienic and wellness properties such as anti-microbial, hypo-allergenic, mite and bed bug resistance, and even eliminates odor. However, we still recommend washing your Copper Topper or Gel Topper two to three times a year to extend its life, keep your bed clean, and get the best sleep possible.

We know cleaning a mattress topper can seem tricky and time-consuming. Whether you don't even know where to start, or you're looking for new, safe, and effective ways to clean your mattress topper, here are a few easy steps everyone, including college students, can do to clean their mattress topper.

How to clean your mattress topper

Cleaning your mattress topper: Special care is needed to maintain the quality and comfort of your mattress topper. To get the most out of your mattress topper, here are the steps we recommend for cleaning:

Carefully transfer the topper from the bed to the floor or any flat surface.

Remove the mattress topper cover. (Later in the article, you will find how to clean the topper cover individually)

Sprinkle a thin layer of baking soda directly onto the surface of the topper.

Allow the baking soda to sit for at least 8 hours or overnight.

Thoroughly vacuum the topper to remove the baking soda.

If your topper has stains or requires deeper cleaning, we recommend:

Mix equal amounts of cool water and distilled white vinegar in a spray bottle.

Spray the stained or affected areas of the topper.

Gently blot out excess moisture.

Follow steps 3 through 5 listed above.

Allow the topper to dry entirely.

Cleaning the mattress topper cover: Sleepyhead mattress toppers come with a machine washable cover, making it easy to combat those surface stains caused by everyday life. Looking to freshen up your mattress topper quickly? - here's how:

Machine wash on a cold or lukewarm gentle wash setting, avoiding harsh or abrasive cleaners.

Tumble dry on low heat or let air dry.
