Commonly Asked Questions About Sleepyhead's Products

Posted by Jessica Staggers on

Getting the perfect bedding set up is one of the most important steps for college success. Our Sleepyhead team takes sleep extremely seriously because we know the importance of rest on academic performance and overall health. Thus, we’ve made it our mission to develop a product to enhance college students’ sleep if their dorm mattress is missing the mark for comfort. In 2022, we had record sales as our mattress topper inventory quickly declined, and we became Amazon’s Choice for mattress topper. As we’ve worked through the most recent back-to-school season, our customers or customers-to-be have had excellent questions about Sleepyhead mattress toppers, so we’ve compiled some of the most frequently asked questions in one place to spread information and clarify any wonders.

Does it smell?

A smelly mattress topper can certainly disrupt sleep. Although some people are more sensitive to smells than others, we take pride in our mattress toppers having little to no scent. If you notice a slight odor, we recommend letting the topper air out for a couple of hours before use. Our customer reviews assure you that, unlike some mattress toppers, Sleepyhead’s products have no lingering odor.

Where are Sleepyhead toppers made?

Currently, like many other popular brands and products, our toppers are designed in California and made in China. However, we strive to use as many American resources as possible to produce our mattress toppers. In fact, our team is comprised of people located throughout the United States.

What sheets work best with Sleepyhead’s toppers in dorm rooms?

Dorm room beds are typically between 6-8 inches thick, and regular-sized sheets are usually 14 inches, so most sheets should work great with our 2-inch or 3-inch topper. Linked below are sheet sets from Amazon that our customers found to work well with our toppers on dorm beds.

Should I use a protector on top or below the topper?

We know life can sometimes get messy, and that’s why our toppers have a washable fabric cover. However, if you are prone to spills or messes on your bed, adding a protector over the mattress topper will give you extra peace of mind and reassure you that your topper’s comfort, quality, and longevity won’t be affected.

Will the mattress topper slip off of the mattress?

All our toppers have a non-slip bottom cover to help prevent any unwanted slipping or shifting. The topper weighs about 12-15 pounds, so when paired with a well-fitted sheet, keeping it in place should be no problem. However, some student mattresses can be more slippery than others, so if you notice the mattress topper slipping, we recommend placing a piece of double-sided tape on the bottom of each corner to prevent slipping.

How does the mattress topper come?

Our mattress toppers come compactly vacuum-sealed in a box. After opening the box and tearing the plastic wrap seal, lay the topper on a flat surface for at least one hour, and the topper will fully decompress. Keep in mind we do not recommend cutting into the plastic wrap seal with a knife as it can potentially damage the topper.

What are the box sizes + weights?

The box size and weight will vary depending on the size of mattress topper you purchase, but the dimensions and weights are listed below by product.

2 inch Twin XL: 21x21x58.5cm | 8.5x8.5x23in (12lb)
3 inch Twin XL: 26x26x58.5cm | 10.5x10.5x23in (18lb)
3 inch Full or Full XL: 26x26x78cm | 10.5x10.5x31in (24lb)
3 inch Queen: 26x26x86cm | 10.5x10.5x34in (26lb)
3 inch King: 26x26x107cm | 10.5x10.5x42in (33lb)

Where do Sleepyhead’s products come from?

Most of our toppers are shipped from our warehouse in Florida; therefore, it can take up to 5 business days for the package to reach the west coast with standard shipping. However, we offer a 2-day shipping option through our website, or you can find us on Amazon for even faster shipping with prime delivery.

What is the difference between the 2-inch and 3-inch topper?

When choosing between a 2-inch and 3-inch topper, you will need to consider your personal preference because our customers enjoy and see great results from both products. The 3-inch topper is our most popular product, and students usually prefer the extra inch of cloud-like comfort and the extra protection it provides from dorm mattresses. However, if you want to experience all the benefits of our toppers but desire a more medium-firm surface, the 2-inch topper is an excellent choice.

Which topper is more firm, and how plush are the toppers?

All of our mattress toppers are considered soft/medium soft, but the Gel topper is our firmest option. If you want to experience all the benefits of our toppers but desire a more medium-firm surface with less cushion, we recommend trying one of our 2-inch toppers.

Which topper is cooler? Which one is the coolest?

Both toppers combat heat retention with specialized cooling construction, but our Gel topper will feel slightly cooler than the Copper topper. However, our naturally antimicrobial Copper topper includes wellness properties and promotes airflow by drawing out excess body heat.

Here is a topper comparison chart you may find helpful.

What is the main difference between the copper topper and the gel topper?

One of the main differences is that our Copper topper features unique advanced hygienic and wellness properties. You can find more information regarding the numerous benefits of our Copper topper hereAdditionally, here is our topper comparison chart to help you decide which topper is best for you.

What is the amount of the student discount?

Sleepyhead is committed to student success, which is why we offer a student discount! We offer a 10% discount for students. For instant access to this discount, visit our website under the “student discount” tab, verify your student status, and you’ll receive a personal coupon code to use at checkout.

How can I store the mattress topper?

Customers can roll up their mattress topper like a sleeping bag for quick transport or storage. However, using a vacuum-sealed or compression bag will save you money, time, and space for long-term storage. We recommend coordinating the size of your mattress topper to the size of the storage bag.

What is your return policy?

While we hope you will love the product, we understand sometimes our topper is not a perfect match for everyone. Thus, we offer a 60-day trial. The trial starts the day customers receive the topper, and to return the topper, customers must email support@sleepyheadusa.com on or before the 60th day.

Can I cut the topper to fit my bed?

We do not recommend cutting the topper as this can damage the integrity of the foam. However, we offer a variety of sizes, including twin, twin XL, full, and queen.

We hope you’ve found the answer to your question in this blog article. However, if you have a question that wasn’t answered here or on our website, feel free to send us an email at support@sleepyheadusa.com, and one of our customer service representatives will help answer your question!
