Mattress Toppers are the New Mattress Solution

Mattress Toppers are the New Mattress Solution

The world is in danger due to concerns surrounding the environment. Each day our carbon footprint harms the earth more and more, and we inch closer to the point of no return. Luckily, many people are working to prevent our planet from becoming inhabitable. We can all play a role in taking steps to preserve the earth and its precious resources. One such way everyone can do their part is by taking a hard look at their worn-out mattress and considering their options.

Each year 18.2 million mattresses (or 50,000 mattresses per day) make their way to a landfill where they sit and sit and sit some more. It takes between 80 - 120 years for the average mattress to break down. That’s a long time! To make things worse, humans spend, on average, 7 to 10 years of their life on a mattress. Having a comfortable place is vital for restful sleep, which explains why mattresses are replaced every 6 to 8 years. Still, that amount of replacement can cause nearly ten mattresses per person to end up in a landfill.

So how do we solve this problem of mattresses ending up in landfills? Of course, the simple solution is to keep the mattress, but mattresses are not manufactured to last forever. As our bodies rest on their surface from night to night, the mattress eventually becomes worn out and deformed, making for a very uncomfortable night of sleep. Also, because we spend so much time on mattresses, there is the obvious concern of all the bacteria trapped in their fibers and making us sick. What if we told you that you could keep your old mattress to help keep it out of the landfill and give it a whole new life? Well, it’s possible with the help of mattress toppers.

Mattress toppers are not new; they’ve been around for ages. However, when most people think of mattress toppers, they think of the egg-carton-shaped foam that would lie across a bed in the 80s and 90s. We live in 2021 now, where mattress toppers have evolved with the ages and are prepared to save you from having to buy a brand new mattress and save the earth from another mattress that will sit for 100 years in a landfill.

Mattress toppers come in various types, so you can quite literally pick one that will meet your comfort needs. The best part is that some, such as Sleepyhead’s, have infused copper into the fibers, which is an antibacterial. A clean sleeping surface never felt so good.

Your mattress doesn’t have to be on its last leg to take advantage of mattress toppers. Maybe you just bought a mattress, but you want to make sure it remains in good shape or need it to be slightly softer (or harder) to support your body. In each of these cases, a mattress topper can help the mattress meet your needs. Let’s work together to reduce the number of mattresses that end up in landfills.
